Panlab NIPB system provides an easy and reliable technique to measure systemic blood pressure and cardiovascular parameters in rodents without any invasive catheterization.
The system is composed of a NIBP control unit, pressure cuff & pulse transducer, a heater, restrainers and optional software options. Different models of these components are available depending on the experiment request.
The pulse signal level (heart rate) is permanently monitored on the LCD display of the NIBP control unit while an internal pressure transducer is constantly measuring the current pressure applied on the cuff. Measurement process involves several steps which are performed automatically; systolic and diastolic blood pressure and calculated mean blood pressure are visualized in real-time in the digital display of the control unit. With regards to the systolic pressure, it can be achieved either once the heart pulse disappears or else when the first pulse reappears (user selectable) after the occlusion process.
For more details about the NIBP method, consult the Non Invasive Blood Pressure test link
All NIBP units can be indistinctly used for rats, mice or dogs, using specific pulse transducers & cuff. A built-in air pump ensures automated cuff inflation/deflation at constant and even rate. In order to avoid deterioration of the animal’s tail after submitting animals to unnecessary high occlusion pressures, the automated deflation is carried out for each animal and separately, once their own systolic value is reached. Real values (without linear regression calculation) are thus achieved while remaining easily traceable when using the NIBPChart option.
The Automatic Heater & Scanner option allows a sequential measurement of 6 to 12 animals without having to change pulse transducers and tail cuffs.
The requirement of a warm environment for the animals is critical for accurate blood pressure measurements. To provide adequate conditions for NIBP measurement, the system can be used in association to a warming chamber which provides a comfortable and heated environment necessary to produce peripheral vasodilatation and isolate the animal from external noise.

Data output options
NIBP CONTROL UNITS:
The NIBP data can be seen directly on the display of these control units: Systolic blood pressure, Diastolic blood pressure, Mean blood pressure and Heart rate.
SEDACOM V2.0 + CONRS232USBHS
Software option allowing the user transferring to the SEDACOM software the same data shown on the NIBP control unit display. These data will be shown in Numeric table directly exportable to Excel. Together with these numeric data, SEDACOM will provide information about the session (date, etc…) and allows the user entering information about the subjects under experiment. For more information about the SEDACOM software, go to the next link.
NIBPCHART + NIBPCHARTUSB
Data output in this case is graphical! The NIBPchart software is an option system offering a straightforward way to ensure the traceability and validation of the data provided by the NIBP units. The evolution of animal pulse and cuff pressure signals are visualized in real time in the screen and the registration can be stored by the user for the further interpretation of the measurement. The values of the systolic and diastolic blood pressures can be determined graphically by browsing the registered signals with the cursor and a specific data panel automatically displays the values of the cuff pressure related to the cursor displacements. Marks indicating the value of the systolic and diastolic pressures can be left on the signal by the user as memorandum of the graphical determination. Once the pressure marks are established, the graphical representation of the measurement can be exported to an image file in BMP format. This is a very important data output for ensuring that the measurement is done in reliable way, so we always strongly recommend the user to have it. The NIBP test success mainly depends on the animal habituation so, this software is the best way to see whether the animal is ready or not for the measurement. This is also the best way to check the reliability of the data.
More detail about the NIBPchart features in the following link.
Key features
- Total reliability to realize consecutive measurements on the same animal
- Automated deflation driven separately for each animal (minimize tail lesions)
- Analogic Signal output for recording cuff pressure and pulse signals in a PC
- Automated cuff inflation/deflation at a very constant rate
- The same system can be used for Rat / Dog / Mice
- Real values provided (without any linear regression calculation)
- Easily traceable data (using NIBPchart software)
- Parameters evaluated can be visualized on-line on the digital display
